Statement on Mall of America Gun Ban

The Mall of America has long had a policy to prohibit lawful carry of firearms by Minnesotans, including posting signs throughout the mall and removing permit holders seen to be carrying firearms.

Minnesota law, however, prohibits a landlord from interfering with the carrying of firearms under MN statute 624.714 by tenants or their guests.

The Mall of America is well aware that as landlords they cannot ban lawful carry. Carrying at the Mall of America does not violate the law, only the mall's wishes.

The current threat environment makes it unconscionable to seek to prohibit self-defense by the mall's customers.

Me Strawser is 100% Incorrect, though I don’t like to admit it.

MN State law saws a landlord cannot restrict tenneants or guests from carrying when it perpains to a dwelling.

Owners and managers of private property that are generally open to the public can legally prohibit weapons on the property.

The MOA is not a dwelling and is private property which is generally open to the public. They have the right ban weapons on the property and it is legal. MN Stat 624.714, subd 17.

Carry if you want but don’t be surprised or mad if they kick you out if someone notices. I personally carry in the MOA, am prepared to leave and pay the ticket if caught.

Interesting thing about that word “concealment;” it means no one can see what’s being concealed. So, what they don’t know can’t hurt them. But I’ll be getting a lot of “thank you’s” should there ever be a SHTF moment. And if history is any sign, it will happen again.

No one pays attention to those signs; just ignore them!
